HYDE PARK, NY -- In commemoration of Pearl Harbor Day, the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum will host a film screening of the 1970 Academy Award winning film, TORA! TORA! TORA! at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 7, 2023. The program will be held in the Henry A. Wallace Center at the FDR Presidential Library and Home. This is a free public event, but registration is required to attend in-person. CLICK HERE to register.
Billed as "the most spectacular film ever made," TORA! TORA! TORA! is a dramatic reenactment of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 as told from both American and Japanese perspectives. The film was directed by Richard Fleischer (Soylent Green) -- with Japanese sequences by Kinji Fukasaku and Toshio Masuda -- and starred Martin Balsam (All The President's Men), James Whitmore (The Shawshank Redemption), Jason Robards (All The President's Men) and Joseph Cotton (The Third Man, Citizen Kane). TORA! TORA! TORA! received the 1970 Academy Award for Best Special Effects and was nominated for four more Academy Awards including Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Editing and Best Sound.
