HYDE PARK, NY -- The Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum will present, “The History of Hyde Park-On-Hudson,” with Hyde Park Town Historian Carney Rhinevault, at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2023. The event will be held in the Henry A. Wallace Center at the FDR Library. This is a free public event, but registration is required to attend in-person. CLICK HERE to register.
“The History of Hyde Park-On-Hudson” is a big story to tell. While Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt are the main characters, the story wouldn’t be complete without the Roosevelt bodyguards, WWI spy Herman Rogers, a fake railroad tycoon, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Prime Minister Winston Churchill, a French mystic, the King and Queen of England, the Dinsmores, the Reverend John McVickar, prosecutor E. Howard Hunt, Katharine Hepburn, French General Charles DeGaulle, and even Timothy Leary.
Carney Rhinevault is Hyde Park Town Historian and the author of six books, including THE HOME FRONT AT ROOSEVELT'S HOMETOWN: SMALL TOWN AMERICA DURING WORLD WAR II, HIDDEN HISTORY OF THE MID-HUDSON VALLEY: STORIES FROM THE ALBANY POST ROAD and THE HISTORY OF HYDE PARK-ON-HUDSON. He has researched thousands of deeds, wills, maps and other documents during a long career in surveying and cartography.
