HYDE PARK, NY -- The Franklin D. Wallace Center at the FDR Presidential Library and Home. This is a free public event, but registration is required. CLICK HERE to register.

Upcoming films in the “Hollywood Goes to War, 1941-1945” film series include: MRS. MINIVER (1942), CRY HAVOC (1943), EDGE OF DARKNESS (1943), HOLLYWOOD CANTEEN (1944), FOUR JILLS IN A JEEP (1944) and THEY WERE EXPENDABLE (1945).

Synopsis:

After being given a phony dishonorable discharge, Army officer Richard Leland (Humphrey Bogart) takes it upon himself to continue on in his capacity as a soldier and offer his services to Chiang Kai-Shek and the Chinese. On his journey through the Panama Canal he comes across Dr. Lorenz (Sydney Greenstreet), a spy determined to blow up the Canal.

The film’s first director, John Huston, abruptly left production to join the United States Army Signal Corps, leaving the movie in the hands of young director Vincent Sherman. ACROSS THE PACIFIC was the second feature directed by John Huston starring Humphrey Bogart, Mary Astor and Sydney Greenstreet. The first was THE MALTESE FALCON (1941). The screenplay, by Richard Macauley, was an adaptation of a Saturday Evening Post serial by Robert Carson, “Aloha Means Goodbye,” published in 1941.

Please contact Cliff Laube at (845) 486-7745 with questions about the event.
