Login.gov and Citizen Archivist Contributions: coming November 21!
Many of you have asked about Citizen Archivist contributions in the new Catalog. We are excited to share that beginning on November 21, 2022, Catalog user accounts and Citizen Archivist contributions will be available in the new Catalog.
This means that when this transition occurs, you will no longer be able to login to our legacy Catalog, and all user accounts, existing Citizen Archivist contributions (tags, transcriptions, and comments), and contributions functions will be migrated to the new Catalog.
One of the biggest updates to the new Catalog is a change in how you access your National Archives Catalog user account. With our new Catalog, all user accounts will be migrated to Login.gov.
What is Login.gov?
Login.gov is a service that offers secure and private online access to many government programs, such as federal benefits, services and applications. With a login.gov account, you can sign into multiple government websites with the same email address and password. Account management (password reset, updating email address functions) is all done through login.gov.
What can you do to prepare?
To prepare for the transition to login.gov, make a note of the email address associated with your Catalog account, so it can be associated with your login.gov account. Not sure what that is? Login to your existing Catalog account to see your email address in your account profile.
Additionally, if you don’t already have a login.gov account, you can set one up so you are ready to go on November 21.
Already have a login.gov account for another government service? Great! You will be ready to go. You will have the opportunity to link your existing Catalog account and your login.gov account starting on November 21. Just be sure the email address associated with your login.gov account is the same email address associated with your Catalog account.
