The FDR Library, in collaboration with theHudson River Ice Yacht Preservation Trust and Hudson River Ice Yacht Club , will display authentic Hudson Valley Ice Yachts, including the WHIFF, recently restored and widely considered the finest ice yacht in the world. 

 

The boats will be on display – with full rigging – in the Henry A. Wallace Visitor and Education Center, during regular operating hours. Free public event.

The Roosevelts received an enormous volume of holiday mail, much of which remains in the archives. These cards came from the general public, but the cards from the soldiers, sailors, or flyers – some handmade, some drawn – can be moving or even quite humorous.

This ice yacht signal pennant belonged to Ellen Roosevelt, FDR's first cousin. Like her father John Aspinwall Roosevelt, owner of the ice yacht ICICLE, Ellen regularly sailed these record-breaking vessels.
