In 1944, photographer Ansel Adams photographed Japanese Americans imprisoned at the Manzanar War Relocation Center in California. He hoped his photographs would help reverse the injustice caused by FDR’s Executive Order 9066.
A new special exhibition developed in collaboration with a distinguished committee of scholars that centers on the historical voices of many Black community leaders, wartime service members, and ordinary citizens who engaged the Roosevelt administration directly and who pushed for progress. Within this context, the exhibit examines the political evolution of both Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt regarding racial justice.
A discussion on the wartime relationship between British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Panelists explore the impact that FDR and Churchill had on global affairs, and their shared interests as world leaders.

This 19th c. figurehead once graced the bow of the WITCH, an American privateer. FDR purchased the figurehead for $25 at the December 4, 1929 sale of the American Art Association, Anderson Galleries, New York.
Long before GPS, sailors found their way by using the stars and a tool called a sextant. An accomplished sailor, FDR appreciated the stars for their usefulness in navigation and their beauty.
When was the last time you took a really good look at the stars?
At 11 am on a foggy August morning, Prime Minister Winston Churchill and President Franklin Roosevelt shook hands on the deck of an American warship off the coast of Newfoundland. Arranged in secrecy, their meeting took place at a dire moment for Great Britain.
