Hyde Park Town Historian and author Carney Rhinevault tells the story of the bigger-than-life world of the Roosevelts in Hyde Park – an epic that features WWI spy Herman Rogers, a fake railroad tycoon, Prime Minister Winston Churchill, a French mystic, the King and Queen of England, Katharine Hepburn, and even Timothy Leary. FDR and Pearl Harbor: Inside the White House on December 7, 1941
FDR Library & Museum Supervisory Curator Herman Eberhardt takes you inside the White House on December 7, 1941 to see how President Roosevelt reacted and responded to the shocking news of the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor.
This dramatic retelling of the Pearl Harbor attack details everything in the days that led up to that tragic moment Japan’s preemptive strike against the United States won the 1971 Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.

The FDR Library will offer a rare public glimpse of Eleanor Roosevelt's original draft of the UDHR, pulled from the archival vaults for a limited time only.
Holiday Open House Events
Decorations, Children's Reading Festival, Cards for Sailors, Santa and Refreshments
Both the Home and the Roosevelt Library study will be decorated for the holidays as they were during the Roosevelt presidency.
The annual Children's Reading Festival will be held in the Henry A. Wallace Center, from 1PM to 4PM on December 9. Children's book authors will read from and sign copies of their books. Featured books will be available for purchase.
In addition, there will be live music, photos with Santa, from 1PM to 3PM, and holiday card-making for sailors on the USS FRANKLIN AND ELEANOR ROOSEVELT beginning at Noon (www.surflant.usff.navy.mil/ddg80).
Refreshments in the visitor center will be served throughout the afternoon. Admission is free to the Home and Library throughout the day. The Home will be open from 9:30AM to 4PM; the Museum from 9AM to 5PM.
To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site and Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site, along with the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum, will host a Human Rights Day Expo on Dec. 10, 2023. Events will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Henry A. Wallace Center in Hyde Park. For more information, including the full program of events, please visit go.nps.gov/humanrightsexpo.
Double Feature Film Screening
From Here to Eternity (3pm) It's a Wonderful Life (6pm) and discussion with Mary Owen
Mary Owen, daughter of American film and television actress/producer Donna Reed, will discuss the life and work of her late mother before the screening of It's a Wonderful Life. This is a free public event, but registration is required.
We are proud to announce this exhibit has received a 2023 Award for Excellence from the Greater Hudson Heritage Network.
A special exhibition developed in collaboration with a distinguished committee of scholars that centers on the historical voices of many Black community leaders, wartime service members, and ordinary citizens who engaged the Roosevelt administration directly and who pushed for progress. Within this context, the exhibit examines the political evolution of both Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt regarding racial justice.
FDR kept this globe near his White House Oval Office desk and used it to trace troop movements and plan military strategy. General George C. Marshall presented it to FDR in 1942 as a Christmas gift from the U.S. Army
